Oak Tree Leisure Centre celebrates 20 years at the heart of the Mansfield community
Oak Tree Leisure Centre is celebrating 20 years of supporting health, wellbeing and community in Mansfield, marking two decades of helping residents of all ages stay active, learn new skills and connect with others.
Since opening our doors in 2006, the centre has played an important role in improving the health and wellbeing of local people through its gym, fitness classes, sports activities and community programmes.
The centre has also worked closely with local clubs, schools and community organisations, creating opportunities for people to become more active while fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for everyone.
Dominic, a member at Oak Tree for the past four years, said:
“The team at Oak Tree are brilliant. I joined four years ago following a heart attack to improve my fitness, and the centre has played a big part in helping me on that journey. Earlier this year, after I had an accident, they paused my membership free of charge while I recovered, which meant a great deal to me.
“Since returning, the centre and the people have become a huge part of my life. I come three times a week for the gym and classes. The gym has great equipment and there’s a wide range of classes to choose from. I enjoy both, but it’s the social side of the classes that I love most. After a class, a group of us often go for a coffee and chat. It’s more than just a leisure centre – it’s a real community.”
Wayne Evans, a Duty Manager at the centre, said:
"I've been here since the day it first opened 20 years ago, and it's been fantastic to see how much it means to the local community. What I've always loved about working here is that no two days are ever the same. Every day brings something different, whether it's helping a customer achieve their goals, supporting families or working with our brilliant team.
"There's a real family feel here, both among the staff and our members, and I think that's what makes Oak Tree such a special place. I'm incredibly proud to have been part of its journey over the last 20 years and look forward to seeing it continue to thrive for many more."

"It's incredible that Oak Tree has played such a significant role as a community hub for 20 fantastic years - everyone connected with it, whether that's past and present staff, members or anyone who has used the centre in that time, should be really proud of it. Facilities like this play a vital role in giving people somewhere to be active, meet people, provide a bit of release from their everyday lives, which all has a huge impact on mental wellbeing too. Over the years, we have continued to evolve to meet the changing needs of the community, investing in facilities, introducing new programmes and ensuring local people have access to high-quality leisure opportunities close to home.
